This is not a new debate among those who call themselves christians. But as it was in the past, so it is now, most will not take the word of God's plain teaching on this subject, which is the authority on this issue, and all matters spoken in the word of God, and the scriptures does speak on the issue of water baptism..
In the gospel according to saint John chapter 3, verses 1-5, Jesus told Nicodemus, you must be born again of water and of the spirit, and except you do it, you can not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
There is only one gospel, not 4 gospels. if you read the heading of each gospel, you will find it reads: the gospel According to Matthew, the gospel According to Mark, the gospel According to Luke, and the gospel According to John.
In the gospel according to Luke, 24:47, Jesus told the Apostles, "repentance and remission of sins should be preached in my(his) name.
The apostles followed his instructions and did as instructed.(read Acts chapter 2:1-43)
Every baptism done in the New Testament were all done in the name of Jesus Christ.
Acts 2:38-Acts 8th chapter-Acts 10th chapter-Acts 19th chapter.
The Apostle Paul in the Book of Galatians chapter 1 wrote, that if man preach any other gospel other than what the Apostles preached, he is cursed.
There are some who say baptism is not important, water does not save anyone, but the word of God says in 1st Peter 3rd chapter "baptism does now save us"
Water Baptism in Jesus Name is the only baptism recorded in the word of God as being done by the church.
The question is often asked, "what about Matthew 28:19"
"baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"
When you search the Scriptures, you find this:
The name of the Father...St John 5:43-" I am come in my father's name, if another had come in his own name, him you would receive" (I am come in my Father's name)
The name of the son...Matthew 1:21 "thou shall call his name Jesus"
The name of the Holy Ghost St John 14:26 "But the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name".
Acts 2:38 is the biblical baptism that is practiced by those of us of the Apostolic Faith
to us there is not controversy, many have refused to search and compare the scriptures, i ask you to search these scriptures, and if you fine where i have erred, please correct me with the word of God.Christ
